Job Description
Position: Process Chemical R&D Chief / R&D Scientist
Position Overview
The company is establishing a new R&D function in India and is looking for a highly proactive Process Chemical R&D professional who will take the lead in developing a new technology/product that does not currently exist in the world.
This is a highly independent, hands-on R&D position. The successful candidate will be expected to work from the initial concept and research stage through experimentation and process development, while helping establish the laboratory environment required for the project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the R&D of a new chemical technology/product that does not currently exist in the market or world.
Develop research concepts and translate them into practical experiments and processes.
Conduct hands-on research in organic chemistry and process chemistry.
Design, plan, and execute experiments independently.
Analyze experimental results and continuously improve the process.
Explore new approaches and develop solutions to technically challenging problems.
Establish the necessary laboratory processes, equipment, testing methods, and working environment from scratch.
Work closely with the Japan/overseas team to discuss research direction, results, and technical challenges.
Document research findings, experimental results, and development progress.
Take ownership of the project and proactively determine the next steps without waiting for detailed instructions.
In the initial stage, work independently without subordinate staff and eventually contribute to building the R&D organization.
Requirements
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience in organic chemistry / process chemical R&D.
Proven experience in industrial or corporate R&D, preferably involving the development of new products, materials, or processes.
Strong hands-on experimental and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to independently design and execute experiments.
A highly proactive and entrepreneurial mindset.
Ability to work in an environment where there is no existing laboratory or established R&D structure.
Candidates with primarily academic experience are not the target profile.
Good English communication skills.
Ideal Candidate
Preferably in their 30s.
An industry-oriented researcher who wants to create something genuinely new.
Someone who takes action rather than waiting for instructions.
Comfortable with uncertainty, trial and error, and developing solutions from an initial concept.
Has demonstrated achievements in developing something new or solving difficult technical problems.
Able to work independently and take full ownership of the R&D project.
Interview Preparation
Before the interview, candidates will be asked to prepare a PowerPoint presentation outlining their previous achievements and experience, including:
Major R&D projects
New products/processes/technologies they have developed
Their specific contribution to each project
Technical challenges they faced and how they solved them
Significant achievements or breakthroughs
Experience relevant to developing something from concept to practical application
Key message for recruitment:
This is not a conventional laboratory management position. The candidate will be expected to create and develop something that does not currently exist, starting from the research stage and building the necessary R&D environment from scratch.
Educational Qualification
