JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Product Development & Innovation
ο· Lead the design and development of aftermarket brake components, such as
brake pads, discs/rotors, drums, calipers, and brake shoes.
ο· Develop products that match Aftermarket Standard and performance while being
cost-effective for the aftermarket.
ο· Identify new product opportunities based on vehicle parc data and market
demand.
ο· Improve friction materials and braking performance (noise, wear, dust, heat
resistance).
2. Engineering & Technical Leadership
ο· Manage and mentor a team of R&D engineers.
ο· Provide technical direction on friction formulations, metallurgy, and brake system
dynamics.
ο· Review design calculations, drawings, and validation plans.
ο· Ensure engineering best practices and documentation.
3. Testing & Validation
ο· Oversee laboratory and vehicle testing for braking performance, including:
o Dynamometer testing
o Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing
o Durability and wear testing
o Thermal performance testing
ο· Ensure products meet international standards such as:
o SAE International testing standards
o UNECE Regulation R90 (for replacement brake linings in Europe)
o ISO quality standards
o JASO Standard
o Any Regional Standards
4. Regulatory Compliance & Quality
ο· Ensure products comply with regional regulations and certifications.
ο· Work with quality teams to maintain consistent product performance and
reliability.
5. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
ο· Optimize materials, formulations, and manufacturing processes to reduce costs.
ο· Work with purchasing and suppliers to evaluate alternative raw materials.
ο· Balance performance vs. cost for aftermarket competitiveness.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
ο· Coordinate with multiple departments such as:
ο· Product Management β for product roadmap and market requirements.
ο· Manufacturing/Operations β to ensure designs are production-ready.
ο· Sales & Marketing β for technical support and product launches.
ο· Supply Chain β for material sourcing and supplier development.
7. Market & Competitive Analysis
ο· Analyze competitor products in the aftermarket (benchmarking braking
performance).
ο· Monitor industry technologies like:
o Low-copper brake materials
o Ceramic friction materials
o Noise-reduction technologies.
o EV Braking / Regenerative Braking etc
8. Project & Portfolio Management
ο· Manage the R&D project pipeline for new brake products.
ο· Track project milestones, budgets, and timelines.
ο· Ensure timely product launches aligned with market demand.
9. Technical Support & Customer Interaction
ο· Technical Support to Marketing Team
ο· Provide technical expertise to key customers, distributors, and internal sales
teams.
ο· Support resolution of field complaints and warranty issues.
10. Documentation & Reporting
ο· Maintain engineering documentation such as:
o Product specifications
o Test reports
o Design change records
o CHM (Change Management)
