In all these years of my career, as a woman, there were some tough times where I had to prove myself more than my men colleagues, I had to put in extra efforts to prove my point but, as I grew in my career, I also grew as a person and now when I look back, I feel that I was able to sail through everything because, rather than questioning the world around me, I always looked inside myself and did some positive self-talk, every time I faced an external instability.
As a woman, I have always felt a sense of satisfaction when I only choose to see the positive change that I have brought in the lives of people I have touched, both men and women, as a daughter, as a daughter in law, as a sister, as a sister in law, as an aunt, as a friend, as a wife, as a senior, as a colleague.
That is why, personally speaking, I don’t think that women or men really need any special day to be thought of, to celebrate their existence, or to be remembered.
So, I do not want to talk about women empowerment, job parity, “women’s voice must be heard” kind of issues. Rather, I would like to share about rediscovering ourselves and reflect on some positive self-affirmations that we need to give to ourselves on every day basis to feel more confident, to know what kind of value we bring to the people in our personal and professional lives, to know that for the people around us, we matter, and to ourselves, that we are precious, to love ourselves even more.
So just reflect on this.
What do you think are the strengths of a woman? Think of physical strengths, mental strengths, emotional strengths.
We have the capacity to carry life in us, we can endure pain month on month, for years all together, for a whole lifetime.
Our strength also lies in our gut feelings, our intuitions about people, situations, which are our guiding force in life.
At an emotional level, we are emotionally very strong, we know well how to hide our emotions, we are a symbol of strength and tranquility in the times of adversity.
We can accommodate an ocean of emotions within us and yet the world outside may just not even get a hint. Yeah, we can be extremely emotional too at times, but we know how to grow through them eventually 😊
When we really decide to do something, there is nothing that can stop us.
We act as a strong pillar for our families, as mothers, as daughters, we are often a role model for our children.
At workplaces, we bring a breath of fresh air with our ideas and presence, we also become a strong foundation for discipline, we are a great source of motivation for our teams with our love and empathy.
So, celebrate your existence every day.
Ask your loved ones, your friends, your colleagues to tell you what you mean to them.
Ask your people for the difference you have made in their lives.
Every now and then, write down the positive changes you have seen in your people, friends, family members and all relationships because of your presence.
It could be a change in their behavior, a change in their attitude towards life, a change in their growth as a person, a change in their personality.
Of all you know, you may be the reason for their existence!
I am so sure that when you carefully reflect on these areas, you will be so very proud of yourself!
Ladies, I feel that love is the most natural and blissful energy ever, yet we find it hard to ever confess it to ourselves. We are so generous in loving our children, our parents, our siblings, near and dear once but what about yourself?
Don’t you think you need to love yourself as much as you love others?
What provides the much-needed tranquility to our existence is being on this journey to know and love ourselves for who we are.
The people around you will value you when you value yourself!
Just be your own unique kind of beautiful woman! You do not have to wait for anyone’s validation.
Your beauty lies in your loving & caring actions, it lies in your mental and physical strength, it lies in your ability to stay strong during adversities, it lies in your ability to stop yourself from getting pushed and taken for granted.
It also lies in your maturity to assess and handle situations, your beauty is the respect you give to others, what makes you unique is your ability to feel!
So, love yourself, you are Awesome & Wholesome!
However, do not forget that this world would be very different if it only had women!
Good human beings, both men and women, make this world a better place to be 😊
On this International Women’s Day, I would like to dedicate a short poem to all the awesome women out here:
Hey you, beautiful woman
You are brave every day,
When actually, you want to just quit,
You always fight your battles hard,
With faith, conviction and grit!
You never give up, even when you think you have lost,
You persist with efforts, all the time at any cost!
You cry, you laugh, you smile,
you endure all the pain,
You tell yourself every day,
Its ok, this is life, I will try again!
You are a ray of sunshine for those around you,
While you know well that your own sunshine,
Is not outside, but it is within you!
Happy Women’s Day.
Thank you.
